its HP iPAQ 2210 / 2215 cases. So far these cases are the most functional slim
leather cases in the market. Some of the features of the Sena HP iPAQ 2210 case
are: * Slim Design * Sync and charge thru cradle * Magnetic closure * ULTRA
belt-clip (optional) * 1 Business Card Slot * 2 SD card slots * 1 Multi-purpose
pocket * Headphone jack opening * Microphone and speaker opening * Easy access
to all buttons For purchase info and pictures, please visit our HP iPAQ 2215
case page. MyPDACafe Sena makes a great looking case. It's immaculately made and
this is a case to show off to your friends. The iPAQ fits very well, and is
fully useable while in the case. It has ample compartments for your SD/MMC flash
memory cards, bills, scraps of paper, and even a mirror (optional item purchased
from Sena)! Sena has a case for the HP iPAQ h4350 that looks gorgeous, tough and
functional. You'd be hard pressed to find another case as impressive as Sena's.
BostonPocketPC "It is apparent that a lot of attention to detail and thought
went into the design of this case considering many things. I love the fact that
the cover is designed to alleviate pressure on the keyboard keys as well as the
iPAQ’s precious screen in a form fitting design, that makes you think, “Why
didn’t HP think of this?” Well I am glad that the folks at Sena Cases did."
PCdemano.com (41XX Case) . ..is the one that but I like since she is but the
small one and in addition to can use with the cradle of HP! (in SPANISH) .
PalmSpirit.com The French website PalmSpirit.com reviewed Sena PalmOne Tungsten
T3 case and the conclusion is: PERFECT (in French). PDAGeek ...The case is
lightweight, functional, and adds good protection. This is my personal favorite,
and my iPAQ rarely leaves the case or my side. ...After testing these cases for
about a month, I have settled on the Sena Cases model for my everyday use, and
am very happy with my choice PocketPCThoughts ...The leather case from Sena is a
very impressive product. The quality of leather is good and the fit and finish
of this case is simply perfect...The attractively finished leather flip just
adds to the overall impression of this case and I highly recommend it...
PDAFrance In a recent comparison of cases at PDAFrance Sena 2215 case received
the most stars in more categories.(in French). PCDemano.com In a recent
comparison of cases at PCDemano Sena 2215 case received the highest score (in
Spanish). GearBits: Palm Corner Can you improve on something that is already
great? If the case you are talking about is Sena, then the answer is yes. ...The
quality of the leather was superb. The quality of workmanship was also of first
class. The cutouts were where they are supposed to be, and the edges were clean.
I loved the fresh smell of the leather when I first opened the case. Sena also
improved the finishing on the edges of the case, and all the edges looked smooth
and made the case more attractive and quite expensive. ...Unlike other cases
that advertise as such, this case worked the first time I tried to hotsync--there
was no break-in period needed to hotsync the T/C in its case... PocketPCPassion
The Axim fits very nicely into this case. As I mentioned all the cutouts are
bang on. One thing that impressed me about this slipper case over many others
was how well it fits the screen of the Axim, and without any distortion... ...To
date I have found this to be one of the most functional cases I have used. I
think mostly because it has such a great spot to put a WiFi card..
BostonPocketPC The case earns a 5 out of 5 stars due to its great quality, very
affordable price, as well as looks, fit and feel.. PRE ORDER SPECIAL Sena Cases

Finally, one of the companies that I have been monitoring, has produced a hard
case for the 4350/4355! Here is the URL: http://www.ipaqcases.com/store/mdc4300.htm
Unfortunately, they show a picture of it in it's package. A lot of good that
does. I'm going to email them and ask if they can take it out of the package and
open it up to take some good detail pics. Cec Cec is offline Cec View Public

So that is why we do not have detailed pictures. Picture above is of this case.
It will come with a belt clip that is same as in the case below: http://www.cases.com/mdc4100.htm"

Prices: Mini-Review: iPAQ 4350 with integrated wireless and keyboard Can this
device knock out my 2215? posted 10:06am EST Fri Nov 14 2003 - submitted by
palmsolo MINI-REVIEW I have the iPAQ 2215, and I recently bought the new US$40
thumb keyboard attachment since I really love these text input devices. I have
been waiting for the iPAQ 4350 to come out, and HPshopping.com made them
available two days ago. I couldn't resist the 12 month "same as cash" deal, and
had one sent out to me overnight. I paid the high shipping because I avoided the
$45 tax I would have paid here in Washington state. I have been playing with the
device for about 6 hours now, and offer this comparison with my 2215. The 2215
with keyboard and SD card weighs in at 6.1 ounces, while the 4350 with SD card
is 6.0 ounces. The 4350 is about a 1/4" longer than the 2215 with keyboard, and
about 3/4" longer than the naked 2215. The widths are the same taking into
account the rubber sides of the 2215. The 2215 is slightly thicker, but really
not that much considering it has a CF slot. 2215 and 4350 at maximum brightness
4350 and 2215 side-by-side 2215 on 4350 Keyboard comparison and details A double
push on the blue FN key does not lock it like it does on the 2215 thumb
keyboard, however the Shift key is sticky and there is a Caps Lock. I like the
two blue and orange FN keys on the 2215 keyboard and find them a bit more
functional. You have to press the blue FN key and then a gray key to get a
number on the 4350 each time you want a number, and I find that annoying. There
is a blue backlight that is bright, but actually I found I had to hold it closer
to my face to really see it in the dark. The orange color on my CLIÉ UX50 is
more visible. All FN functions/symbols, etc., are on the key itself instead of
on the surrounding pad, so everything is backlit. There is no backlight on the
2215 keyboard. The backlight can be turned off in your Settings, and can also be
set to light up for two to 10 seconds after a key press. The soft input panel
disappears when a key is pressed. The same thing happens with the 2215 keyboard.
There are Menu and Start keys to help you navigate on the 4350. The 2215
keyboard has a Start key and Menu key as well. I could not figure out any way to
do a CTRL-C, CTRL-V, etc., to copy, paste, and cut on the 4350, which I think is
very important for text entry functionality. The 2215 keyboard does have a
dedicated CTRL key in addition to a blue and orange FN key, so you can perform
CTRL-x functions. I actually think I prefer the 2215 thumb keyboard attachment
due to the much greater key functionality, and the fact that there is no
dedicated CTRL key on the 4350 is very disappointing. The only thing missing
from the 2215 keyboard is a backlight, but the colored one on the 4350 isn't
that great in the dark anyway. There are also two small indentations on the 4350
keyboard center that I haven't figured out a use for, although I can see the
backlight through them. Backlit keyboard Keyboard and hardware buttons Hardware
The speaker is under the D-pad and not on the back like the 2215, which is a
nice improvement and may help me hear alarms. You get two styluses in the box,
and they are not like the cheap plastic 2215 ones, but the metal 1945 ones. This
is great news as well. The display is the same as the 1945 with a yellow tint if
angled enough, yet the color saturation and vibrancy is better than the 2215. If
you are bothered by the yellow tint, you will be again on the 4350. Homemade
photo stories (created with the Plus! Digital Media software) are smoother and
look nicer on the 4350, while they are a bit choppy between photos in the full
screen mode on my 2215. There is a Record button, and the IR port is on the left
side next to it. You can program 9, yes 9, hardware buttons for different apps
or functions. The four hardware buttons, the Record button, and the FN-hardware
button. There is no Consumer IR (CIR) or remote control program. The battery is
huge, but I haven't had a chance to really test out its life yet. Most of the
device is a dark grey plastic, yet feels solid. The plastic is not slick, but
has a bit of texture. There is a new angled cradle that is the same as the 4150.
The cradle allows for the huge 3600 mAh add-on extended battery, as well as the
ability to charge a spare battery. The reset button is on the bottom of the
device, not on the back like the 2215. The 4355 works with the iPAQ foldable
keyboard. Just remember to disable the built-in keyboard. The hardware buttons
are similar to the 2215, but stick up just a bit higher. The navigational pad is
rectangular, and unlike the 2215 there are definite clicks when you move in
different directions. There is a small button in the center of the pad. There
are two indicator lights adjacent to the power button, and the left one flashes
both Blue (Bluetooth on) and Green (Wi-Fi on), while the right light is for
power status. A slip case similar to the 2215 one (two heavy pieces of
canvas-like material with elastic sides) is included. I don't think it will be
easy to create a functional case for this device due to the keyboard and length.
I wandered all over my house and yard with both the 4350 and the 2215 with
D-Link Air DCF-660W card, and the 2215 and card consistently had one bar greater
than the 4350 (out of four indicator bars). Cradle, stylus, and slip case 4350
vs. 2215 batteries Software HP added the iPAQ Image Zone software, which looks
to be the same photo viewing software I had on my Jornada 568. There is a flight
mode on the Wi-Fi that turns it off with a quick tap. MSN Messenger is the
latest version, so you don't have to waste RAM updating it. I was able to sign
on and chat with no problems. Microsoft Reader is also the latest version, so no
RAM is consumed with the update. HP really needs to release a ROM update for the
2215 to fix these issues. There is a Format Storage utility that formats your
iPAQ File Store for you. There is something called LEAP, which I am not familiar
with. After first opening up the box and turning on the 4350 I was ready to drop
my 2215. However, after using the keyboard some more and finding out it is more
limited than the keyboard attachment, I am thinking of sending it back to HP
before my 30 day period expires. I think the keyboard should be highly
functional if it is going to be on the device. I can't even initiate a New
command in Notes, Word, Excel, etc., without my stylus, and the 2215 keyboard is
the same. I did have this ability on my Jornada 568 keyboard attachment, and
hope a developer creates some keyboard utility soon. There should be a key or
key combination for New like there is for OK. The integrated wireless is nice,
but I don't know if I am willing to give up a CompactFlash slot for it. As I
stated above, it is also shorter range than an external Wi-Fi card, and since I
primarily use Wi-Fi in my house I don't think convenience overrides longer
range. I like the consumer IR and Nevo software on my 2215 and wish the 4350 had
it as well. The 4350 is a nice device with some great features, but if you want
integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth then I think I would go with the 4150 and thumb
keyboard attachment instead. USER COMMENTS 70 comment(s) OMG (10:41am EST Fri
Nov 14 2003) wtf! no dedicated ctrl key! - by Geez I know can you believe that?
(10:45am EST Fri Nov 14 2003) I really do not understand how HP could have
forgotten such a basic key on this keyboard. The only reason to sacrifice size
is to be able to have a functional keyboard and it seems HP lost the
opportunity. If anyone has any questions, feel free to post and I'll try to
answer them as soon as possible. - by palmsolo Clarification of Menu key
(10:47am EST Fri Nov 14 2003) The Menu key is actually a key that replaces the
stylus tap-and-hold and does not activate/launch the bottom menus, i.e. Tools,
Playlist, etc. I would like to see a key that did activate these menus to make
the keyboard more functional. - by palmsolo h4155 Thoughts (10:48am EST Fri Nov
14 2003) I just got an h4155 and will probably look into the snap-on thumbboard.
I've been using a Treo 300 for a while now but still have my old iPaq 3630
around. I'm not happy about the yellow tint and I actually think I like the
h2215's D-Pad better, but having integrated WiFi will allow me to do some
interesting things that I probably wouldn't bother with if I had an h2215 since
I wouldn't keep the WiFi card in all the time (due to the antenna bulge). For
instance, I'm thinking of setting up some X10 appliances in my house and should,
in theory, be able to use my h4155 to control my desktop computer running the
X10 stuff. - by Scott R Application Support (10:59am EST Fri Nov 14 2003) Could
you check if Vito button mapper works with both keyboards. Button Mapper has
these macros which you can assign a button and even simulate screen presses. So,
if it works you could have a button hold tap the screen where the File menu is
usually located. I ask because the program does not work with the Ipaq 3970 and
slim keyboard. I think it has something to do with the 2 sets of hardware

better combination? thanks - by Mark LEAP (11:41am EST Fri Nov 14 2003) The
report says that this has LEAP. Could this be the Cisco LEAP that is used by
many corps to add greater security to their WiFi networks? If it is that is
great because so few wireless products support this technology. Now, those of us
inside Cisco wireless networks finally have a PDA that can be wirelessly
connected. - by sumisu About this guy... (11:45am EST Fri Nov 14 2003) Obvously
smaler is the way to go. I mean you dont wana shrink a pda down to nothing so it
loses its utilization...excuse me for my spelling ^_^. But this guy seems to be
quite heafty. I own now a zire 71 (mainly because i need to take quick pictures
for my work, low rez.) , curently and its perfict size for "coat" pocket..i cant
even carry it in my pants pocket, but I guess an intergrated keyboard is
becoming esential now days. Just my 55 cents - by Merritt LEAP (4:05pm EST Fri
Nov 14 2003) Both the 4355 and 4155 have LEAP built into them (in fact, there is
a little control panel called "LEAP" to make it easier to configure). Even the
5450 and 5550 support LEAP via a ROM upgrade downloadable from HP's site. So
there's plenty of options for Cisco employees now! - by NewtonDKC LEAP (4:07pm

My rating is going up on this baby! (4:41pm EST Fri Nov 14 2003) I have been
playing some more with the 4350 and found that if you press and hold the FN key
and then move the navigational pad left or right you can select text. You then
press the menu (stylus tap-and-hold) key to cut, copy, paste, clear, recognize,
alternates. This is GREAT news as this was one BIG issue for me. Now if I could
just figure out how to select New or other bottom menus with the keyboard. - by
palmsolo Another use for center button (4:46pm EST Fri Nov 14 2003) I also just
found that pressing and holding the center button on the navigational pad acts
as a stylus tap-and-hold in several areas. - by palmsolo remote (5:46pm EST Fri

So if you are typing a series of numbers on the 4355, is it correct that you
have to push the blue function key before EACH of the numbers?!! I do like
better the keypad layout of the 4355 board than the across-the-top-letters of
the 2215 t'board, but if you have to push the blue function key before each
number (say in a tel #) the improved functionality is wasted. I also really like
the 2215's better form factor for most use (the virtual keyboard is fine for
short input) with the option of adding the t'board for heavier text input, say
email or detailed notes. I don't use WiFi engough for the included WiFi to make
me give up my 2215 for either the 4155 or the 4355 and I carry a WiFi CF card
with me for the rare occasion I do use WiFi, say at Starbucks. (Although I must
say that if right now I had to decide between purchasing the 2215 or the 4155
the 4155 would win hands down!) Palmsolo, thank you very much for your review.
In addition to its excellence, it has validated my decison to add the thumboard
and the WiFi CF to my 2215 rather than get the 4355! - by DaveTreo300600 Typing
numbers (6:59pm EST Fri Nov 14 2003) Yes, from all my testing so far you have to
press the blue FN key before each number. If someone figures out a way to make
the FN sticky for this please let me know. One nice thing with the 4350 keyboard
is that word suggestions work like when you use the SIP. I just hard reset my
2215 so I'll test this later too. - by palmsolo Word Suggestions on the 2215

just confirmed that the suggested words functionality does not work on the 2215
with thumb keyboard, but does work on the 4350. Another plus for the 4350 if you
like using this ability. I have always trusted HP quality, but may be trying out
the Toshiba e800 due to the high resolution. Hopefully, we'll see a high
resolution iPAQ with WiFi, Bluetooth, and maybe even a keyboard. - by palmsolo

Tue Nov 25 2003) IMO, the 4350 is a better machine. The 4150 with the attachment
just seems less solid than the 4350. Also, the 4350 has a better screen made by
Sony, which eliminates the yellow tint. And the lack of the ctrl key isn't that
big of a deal for me. There are other ways to use the copy/paste funtions
anyways. The weak wifi of the 4350 is sort of a concern for me though, but I
know HP released a patch for the wifi to improve the range and it does support
autofallback I believe. I would probably even get the 4350 over the 5555 even if
they were the same price. The extra storage and biometric security just doesn't
outweight the keyboard and everything else about the PDAs are identical. I'm
glad I found out about the 4350 though, because I was just about to get the
Tungsten C, but that was missing two very important features...a stereo
headphone jack (instead it has a proprietary headset jack), and mic. And the
extra size of the 4350 doesn't bother me at all. I use the Sharp Zaurus 5500
right now which is about the same size, and it doesn't bother me at all. It
still fits nicely into my pocket and in my hand. And why is the 4350 considered
lower end than the 5000 series? If it's because of the lack of biometric
security and the extra storage than I don't consider it lower end at all,
especially because of the keyboard. Oh, and can someone tell me the difference
between the 5555's wifi capability and the 4350's capability? Does the external
antenna add a lot of distance? And can you log onto a domain with the 4350 so I
can access my email account? Thanks. - by Leright HP 4350 vs. 5555 (5:27pm EST
Sat Nov 29 2003) I currently use a Palm M515, but am looking to jump to a
PocketPC handheld. I would like the ability of using my VerizonWireless
Aircard555 without opening my laptop when traveling, Palm's of course do not
have a PC card slot. I know that the 5555 will accept this PC card. Since I will
be replying to about 40 emails a day, I would like the keyboard of the 4350, is
there an adapter for that model to connect a PC card? If not, I guess I would
look for an attachable keyboard for the 5555, is there one better than another?
Thanks very much. - by Dean ipaq h4350 vs h2215 (5:38am EST Mon Dec 01 2003)
Thanks for the comparison, I have been trying to make up my mind on the relative
merits. Has any one used either as a reverse RPN calculator? I do a lot of

implemented. Has any one comments? - by RJ Looking for 4350 ALT key (9:12pm EST

by Rob M Ctrl Key (7:16pm EST Sat Dec 06 2003) I have not yet puurchased a
4350/55 but was about to until I read about the lack of a ctrl key. I just
tracked down someone at HP (actually Compaq) tech support who said that the key
plus various keys would serve as key combinations. I had some trouble
understanding his accent and am not sure that menu-C, menu-V, etc were the same
as ctrl-C, etc, but he did say that he tried the designated menu combinations
and they worked. Can anyone confirm this? - by del Cisco Leap Issues (3:02pm EST

Tungsten C (10:35pm EST Thu Jan 01 2004) Hello. I am totally new to the world of
the PDA and have been pouring over any review I can find to try to aid me in my
purchasing decision. I've narrowed it to the ipaq 4350 or the Palm Tungsten C. I
am a university professor and I want to be able to use the wireless network at
school and at home. I use word and excel documents for my class rosters,
gradebooks, and syllabi and need to be able to easily share this information
between my pda and my home desktop (a new Dell PC). I'm not a big user of extra
stuff but think it would be nice to have music on my pda. My husband thinks the
ipac is better but my sister swears by her tungsten c = someone please help!
THANKS - by Holly H4350 Keyboard Mapping (4:24pm EST Fri Jan 02 2004) I have the
new H4350 and love it so far. My only concern (and this has come up in the
comments above) is the lack of full keyboard functions. I would like to be able
to control certain network equipment through this device, but the lack of CTRL,
ALT, ESC and function keys makes this impossible. I also do not like the fact
that the number pad can't be locked on (how dumb!!). Any news on how to access
these functions with key stroke combinations or third party software would be
wonderful news. - by Jeff WiFi problems (1:38am EST Sat Jan 03 2004) I've had
the H4350 for about 4 weeks and have been thoroughly impressed. However, I am

with my notebook to write this message. Has anybody come across this? - by Chris
4350 vs 5555 (4:34pm EST Wed Jan 07 2004) Well over the last 4 weeks I made the
decision to go for the 4350. The slight differences in features were negligable.
5555 gives 128 RAM, but HP had a promo when buying a new unit and accessory and
will give you a 128 RAM chip for free. pound for pound now the 4350 has 192 RAM
now. I was going to hold off for the IPAQ 6000 integrated smartphone but I had
no assurances that AT&T would support it. I am also not very happy with the
current status of GSM in the US so I will hold off on any GSM based device. I do
an extreme amount of travel and had to get rid of my AT&T GSM phone and switch
back to TDMA. When the time is right for the switch back to GSM, I will pick up
a bluetooth enabled unit to work in tandem with the 4350. - by Warren Pocket

vs Palm Tungsten C (6:41pm EST Mon Jan 19 2004) There are a couple of big
differences which may or may not make a difference, depending on the features
you want. The Tungsten C does not have built-in Bluetooth, and the Bluetooth
expansion cards on the market do not yet support the Tungsten (though the
probably will in the future). Also, the Tungsten C only has mono audio out, not
stereo. The Tungsten C is considerably cheaper when you take into account the
$100 rebate that Palm recently extended out to the end of March 2004. For
instance, Buy.com has the 4350 for $485 and the Tungsten C for $435, -$100 =
$335 net cost. - by Tim T. 4350 vs. 4355 (6:45pm EST Mon Jan 19 2004) According

Then tap the bottom Network Card button. There should now be Wireless and

my 4350 for a few weeks and have now gotten used to the keyboard conventions.
Let me address some of the "problems" I have read above. Yes, you can hold down
the FN key and type repeated numbers. I see no issue here. I also have no
problem typing in, for instance Word, without my stylus. To select words I hold
down Shift and use the direction pad. Hit "Menu" "C" to copy or "T" to cut and
choose "Menu" "P" to paste. It really isn't much different than the control key
functionality. What I want to know is are the HP CF expansion sleeves compatible
with the 4350. Everywhere I see them online the 4250 is not listed as
compatible. Thanks for all the good comments. - by cdub Keyboard Issues (8:11am

couple and the one on Handheldplanet looks to be the best so far - Didnt Vaja
say they are going to release one for the 4350? I didnt find one on the site tho...
palmsolo I emailed my contact at Sena and they are working on a 4350 case, but
it won't be out for a couple months. I did try my aluminum Smarter Case and my
4350 fit in it well. This is a cheap (less than $20) alternative for those who
carry their PDA in a bag or pack. allklrnoflr I ordered the one from handheld
planet and found out a few days later by reading in forums that they are
backordered. I finally received an e-mail response after my third request and
they say my order should ship on 12/22. I see piel frama has a real cool looking
case that can be received in 14 days. I also have heard that casesonline will
have on shortly. Surprising that there is no news on ipaqcases.com when they
might have one available. allklrnoflr I just received my Proporate case today
that I order on 12/23. Pretty nice leather case, the IPAQ is held in by two hard
plastic tabs, Don't think you would want to remove this very often since it is a
tight fit putting it in and might cause some wear and tear on the sides. I also
ordered from Piel Frama on 12/23 but have yet to receive. Big_Steve I just
received the Piel Frama case for my H4350, that Santa brought me. It's very nice
and appears to be of high quality leather. I ordered it direct, and it was
shipped UPS from Spain and it arrived in 10 days. The only suggestion I would
make to PF, would be to incorporate an extra stylus slot. Big_Steve allklrnoflr
Big Steve , I just got my PF case and I already put my proporta case away. The
PF seems to offer much more protection for my IPAQ, You made a great choice!
Big_Steve Excellent, The only question is, will the PF case work with an extend
battery on the 4350? Big_Steve allklrnoflr I'm already on my second case and I'm
really happy with it(Piel Frama). If anyone is looking for a new case for the
4300 you should check out the Bellagio Leather flip case, It looks very classy
and a big plus is that it will fit in the cradle while it is in the case
cool!!!!! http://www.bellagiodesigns.com/showcategory3.php?cod_category3=34&cod_category1=1
martinsharley Eanyone used a good Ipaq 4350 metal case? kwickone I am using a
leather case from EB Cases. I have always liked their "Slipper" cases in the
past, and this is no exception. I do like the looks of the new Vaja case though.
Ken rmerkley :approve: I am using an aluminium case I got from PROPORTA.COM You
can't sync it in the cradle but I do that wirelessly any how. It does have
access to the port on the bottom so can charge in the case. R Ipaq_User OK, so
it is due in the mail tomorrow and I don't have it yet. But it looks good. It is
made by a company called Bellagio (not the hotel) and is a flip over the top
kind. The bottom back flips back to allow cradle sync without removing it. Has
SD storage. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5705582361&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT
The search I used on Ebay was for ipaq 4355 case http://search.ebay.com/ipaq-4355-case_W0QQsosortpropertyZ1
Ipaq_User I bought mine. Fits well, has a solid look and feel to it. No loose
threads (yet) and is comfortable to use. One drawback to me is that it fits so
well, the access to the stylus is difficult at best. If I were redesigning it I
would add a stylus pocket on both sides (I am a lefty). The screen access and
keyboard access are totally unimpeded. I would recommend this case. shiznannigan
I have a lovely aluminum case that I purchased on Ebay, from a seller named "everydaysource".
They're about $20 after shipping costs, and are very nicely made. I don't think
it will fit in the cradle while in the case, but there are access holes for the
port on the bottom, the reset button, the voicerecorder and IR port, WiFi and
Charging lights, Stylus, SD card, and headphone jack. Neoprene-lined, with SD
storage, and it seems to be quite sturdy. chiacchierone I have a lovely aluminum

picked up a 4355 and am enjoying it more and more each day. Miserable case from
HP, so I searched the forums and decided on the Sena case. I couldn't be
happier. Easy to sync the unit while in the case, Sd cards slid out easily with
notch in bottom of card holders, magnetic closure keeps cover from turning the
uint on by mistake and it looks good! Just wanted to add my 2 cents to the
topic. C. vBulletin v3.0.1, Copyright ©2000-2004, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

Review Back to all headlines submitted by abaxter Sunday, November 02, 2003
email article view recent articles by abaxter The new iPAQ Pocket PC h4100
series is intended to bring to market an affordable integrated wireless PDA in a
slim design. The iPaq 4150 has the same form factor as the iPaq 1940, but the
same internals and specs as the new iPaq 4350 from HP . This means the 4150
brings to consumer and business users a slim device containing many features of
the type expected from a larger and bulkier PDA. Equipped with a fantastic
screen and lightweight form factor there's a lot to like about the iPaq 4150. In
this full review I include picture comparisons with the iPaq 2210 and iPaq 1940
to highlight similarities and differences among these popular iPaqs. Also
addressed in this review is the yellow-tinted screen issue of the iPaq 4150. HP

Performance Benchmarks Screen (addresses iPaq 4150 yellow-tint issue) Wireless
Device Design and Comparison to iPaq 2210 and iPaq 1900 Series Battery
Accessories Conclusion First Impressions Upon opening the iPaq 4150 I was very
pleased to see that it did indeed stay true to the design and form factor of the
iPaq h1900 series ( iPaq 1910 , iPaq 1940 , iPaq 1935 ). I used both the iPaq
1910 and iPaq 1940 for a period of time when reviewing those devices ( iPaq 1910
Review , iPaq 1940 Review ) and just loved the small form factor. I was
skeptical that the weight and dimensions could be kept the same as the 1900
series with the addition of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a standard sized headphone jack
(the 1910 and 1940 required a 2.5 mm – 3.5 mm audio adapter to use standard
headphones due to their non-standard small headphone jack). However, the 4150
scores in keeping the same dimensions, its dimensions are 4.47 by 2.78 by 0.5
inches (length x width x height), the iPaq 1940 is 4.46 x 2.75 x .5 inches. The
4150 weighs 4.67 oz while the iPaq 1940 is 4.37 oz so you pick up .3 oz in
weight, but trust me you won't notice it! In my review of the 1940 I was
disappointed to find that the screen was not as superb as the original 1910
device, it had some issues with a yellowish hue appearing instead of bright
white backgrounds. The iPaq 4150 does not suffer as badly from this issue, but
the device I have does have a very slight yellow-tint when viewed from a very
low angle, I address this is my review of the screen . In the Box The iPaq 4150
comes with everything you need to for a PDA, including a cradle for synching,
this is an accessory not included with the 1900 series of devices. Let's take a
look at what's actually included in the box: HP iPAQ Pocket PC h4150 unit USB
desktop cradle/charger AC adapter Slip cover Stylus (2 included) Battery (1000
mAh removable and rechargeable Lithium Ion) Getting started poster Charger
adapter HP iPAQ Pocket PC Companion CD The software included with the 4150 is
decent, but not as generous as the iPaq 2210. Noticeably missing is the Nevo
Universal Remote program that a lot of people love and is included with the iPaq
2210. However, if you want to use your iPaq 4150 as a remote control I highly
recommend the Total Remote solution that includes an IR range boosting antennae
and excellent software interface for $29.99. You can control any entertainment
device from 100 feet away using this! Anyway, here's a rundown of all the full
version programs you get with the 4150: HP Mobile Print Center Bluetooth Manager
iPAQ File Store: non-volatile storage in flash ROM (not available in Japanese,
Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean versions) iPAQ Backup:
utility for Backup/Restore to Main Memory, Memory Card or iPAQ File Store iPAQ
iTask Manager: access and launch programs easily iPAQ Image Zone: view images
and create slide shows Utilities: Self Test, iPAQ Audio, Power Status Westtek
ClearVue Suite F-Secure FileCrypto Data Encryption Colligo Personal Edition
Adobe PDF Viewer RealOne Player for Pocket PC iPresenter PowerPoint converter
MobiMate WorldMate Resco File Explorer 2003 You also get all the built in
programs that come with Windows Mobile 2003 such as Windows Media Player 9.0,
Pocket Word, Pocket Excel and Pocket Explorer. View the bargainPDA.com Windows
2003 Fast Guide to see more about the OS and what's included. iPaq 4150 Specs
and Pricing Here's a rundown of the specs on this device, you can always view
updated specs and competitive pricing for this device by searching for "iPaq

on the iPaq 4150 was $429.00. Manufacturer: Hewlett Packard Model: iPAQ h4150

Memory and Processor The iPaq 4100 comes with an Intel XScale 400 MHz processor
that matches or slightly surpasses the performance of the iPaq 2210 400 MHz
processor, the system is quite a bit faster than the iPaq 1940 that uses a
Samsung 266 MHz processor, this is displayed in the benchmark statistics. The
processor is snappy and playing video clips and games on this device presents
good performance with no slow down. The memory for this PDA is marked as being
64MB RAM total with 55MB available to the user and 32 MB of ROM in which the
Windows 2003 Mobile OS is stored. The missing 9MB of RAM that you can't access
for storage is used by the operating system to allow for faster write
performance. Performance Benchmarks We used Spb Benchmark from Spb Software
House to generate benchmark statistics for the iPaq 4150. This is a great
program and to compare performance for Pocket PC devices. I chose to compare it
to the Asus MyPal A620, HP iPaq 2215, Dell Axim X5 and HP iPaq 1910. The Asus
MyPal is the king of Pocket PC performance currently, and while the iPaq 4150
could not beat it overall, it did come close to matching in a lot of areas and
consistently beat out the Axim X5 and iPaq 2215. It of course performed better
than the iPaq 1910 as that device only has a 200 MHz processor. In this chart of
benchmark results the blue bolded numbers indicate the best performance overall
in a category (higher numbers indicate better performance). iPAQ h1910 iPAQ 2215

iPaq 4150 is absolutely top notch. It takes up good amount of the real estate on
the front of the device in order to fit it's 3.5 inch diagonal viewable area
onto such a small PDA. The resolution is 240 x 320 and the TFT color display
allows for 65,536 different colors. However, I'd be amiss if I didn't mention
the 'yellow-tint' issue. With the iPaq 1940 I found the screen to be so yellow
when viewing it from certain angles that I just couldn't stand it. Here's a
picture I took of the iPaq 1940 next to my iPaq 2215: iPaq 2215 on the left,
iPaq 1940 on the right...notice the very yellow tint? With the iPaq 4150 we
again have this yellow-tint issue, but it is not nearly as bad. In fact, I had
to get down to a very low angle of viewing to notice this yellow tint and in
every day use it was not noticeable to me. iPaq 4150 on the left, iPaq 2215 on
the right. The iPaq 4150 has a mild yellowish tint when viewed from a very
low-angle. When viewed from a normal angle there is no tint (iPaq 4150 on the
left, iPaq 2215 on the right) I don't know if others have a bigger problem than
me with this, but if you find a device you get has a yellowish-tint at even the
slightest angle you might want to contact HP. Wireless The h4100 series includes
integrated WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) 802.11b and Bluetooth® wireless
technology, so you can access the Internet, e-mail, and information when you
want. HP chose to go with 802.11b due to its wide market availability, better
power efficiency than 802.11a, and allowance for smaller form factor. I had no
problems whatsoever setting up the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. There are no external
buttons to turn these options on or off, you simply use the wireless manager
interface to flip the wireless options (by turning off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth you'll
save on battery life, screen light is the biggest battery drain and Wi-Fi is the
second biggest). Once the Wi-Fi is turned on the iPaq will show you the networks
it has detected and allow you to choose which one to connect to. It's a very
user friendly process and in my apartment in which I have several wireless
networks surrounding me the 4100 detected 6 different networks and allowed me to
connect to my own WEP security protected network by using a radio button
interface. It's easy to select your network from those the iPaq 4150 detects I
was able to cruise the net from up to 900 feet away from my access point, HP
advertises 1000 feet reach. I can't even get 1000 feet away from my access point
without falling off my apartment building, so this is not a limitation for me!
Here I am surfing Microsoft.com on the 4150, check out the easy hold form
factor! The Bluetooth connection wizard is very simple to use, it is exactly the
same program as that included with the iPaq 2210 device. I had no problems
detecting my Bluetooth enabled Son Ericsson t68 phone with the iPaq 4410. As a
note, when using Bluetooth two devices can only perform activities with each
other if they both support a common profile, HP has created a Bluetooth
Compatibility Matrix to help people identify products that work well with HP
Bluetooth enabled products. See the Bluetooth Compatibility Matrix in order to
determine if your favorite Bluetooth device will communicate okay with the iPaq
4150. Invariably we get the question asking if an iPaq device can be used as a
phone so I'll go ahead and answer that "no" the iPaq 4150 cannot perform this
capability. This device is intended for data use, which is why it includes the
802.11b and Bluetooth for accessing email and other data, it is not intended for
voice phone communications. The exception to this might be the use of a
separately purchased Voice Over IP software application, which allows you to use
this device as a VoIP phone in an 802.11b WLAN environment. Device Design and
Comparison to iPaq 2210 and iPaq 1900 Series A picture, or diagram for that
matter, is worth a thousand words so here's a diagram of the iPaq 4150 and the
functions you can access using its buttons: Active Bluetooth/WLAN Indicator
Power Button LED Power/Notification Indicator Color Display iTask Button Inbox
Button 5-Way Navigation Button Calendar Button The 4150 button layout is
different to the older iPaq 1940 and 1910 devices, below is a picture I took of
the h1910: iPaq 1910 Notice that the shortcut buttons are right next to each
other and that the dialpad is round. The 4150 button layout changes things
around by spacing out the shortcut buttons and using a more square type of
dialpad. I prefer the new shortcut buttons, but to be honest I preferred the
round dialpad. iPaq 4150 button layout The iPaq 4150 interestingly slopes the
buttons in a different manner to the iPaq 2210 and has a larger jogdial than the
iPaq 2210 even though the 2210 is larger. iPaq 2210 button layout The iPaq 4150
and 2210 are somewhat close in price range (iPaq 2210 MSRP $399.99, iPaq 4150
MSRP $449.00) and you might be interested in seeing some side by sides to show
how they differ in form if you're thinking about buying one or the other. I
currently have both devices and find the performance to be very similar between
the two. The iPaq 4150 screen is definitely brighter and nicer than the 2210 and
the extra built in Wi-Fi is a huge plus for me (I use a CompactFlash Wi-Fi card
for the 2210 to access the internet), but the 2210 has a better software package
(includes Nevo Universal Remote) and also has CompactFlash expansion which is
very nice to have. I'll let the pictures tell you about the form differences:

Battery The battery included with the iPaq 4150 is a 1000mAh, 100mAh more than
the older iPaq 1940 device. This is adequate and I'm finding battery life to
average about 4 hours with normal usage, but I wish HP had been as generous with
the h4150 as they are being with the iPaq h4350 device -- that includes a
high-capacity 1,560mAh battery as the standard battery and gives over 6 hours of
battery life, obviously because it's 33% more powerful. Of course, the bigger
battery means a greater weight for the iPaq 4350 so the tradeoff is we get a
lighter device with the h4150. In a test I did placing the screen brightness at
standard brightness (50% on mark on the meter) and looping a media file in full
screen mode I drained the battery down to 5%, forcing system shut down, after
about 3 hours and 45 minutes. The iPaq 4350 is the same as the h4150 but has a
built in keyboard and longer lasting 1,560mAh battery Accessories There's been a
lot of confusion as to what accessories will work with the iPaq 4150. It's the
same size as the iPaq 19XX series so many people are curious as to whether cases
for that series fit the 4150. The answer is yes, sort of. The 4150 and 1910 are
so close in size that the fit of the case to the PDA is just fine. However,
there's the problem that the record button and IR locations are in different
places on the 4150 so the cutouts in the 1910 case from people such as
InnoPocket do not match up. However, the IR and record button access in the case
aren't a huge deal, so if you want a hard case right away then you can go ahead
and buy an iPaq 1910/1940 case for your 4150. Think Outside Stoway Keyboard
works with the iPaq 4150 Another question that many people are asking is whether
the iPaq 4150 can use keyboards that were built for the iPaq 3000 series or 5000
series. The answer is yes! Many people will be happy about this as the 1900
series was very exclusive and you couldn't use accessories for other iPaq
devices with them. A specific example of a great foldable keyboard you can use
with the 4150 is from Think Outside, makers of the Stowaway Portable Keyboard .
Just download the latest drivers for the keyboard ( http://www.thinkoutside.com/support/hpipaq/driver8646.html
), install them on the 4150 and you'll be able to use this keyboard. Think
Outside products are also sold under the Targus name through some retailers.

" width=150 border=0> The Bluetooth GPS receiver from HP is another expansion
option The only expansion slot you have on the 4150 is the SDIO type. There's a
lot of products now coming out for this type of expansion that were once only
available as Compact Flash accessories. HP is now offering a 1.3 MP swivel
camera for $139.99. You can also use a GPS device that communicates with the
4150 via Bluetooth. I've mentioned before but it's worth mentioning again, many
people are disappointed and put off by the fact the iPaq 4150 does not come with
a consumer level IR solution or remote control software, but you can solve this
problem by looking into Total Remote from Griffin Technology. Conclusion Overall
I just really like the 4150, it's a perfect blend of the great screen and form
factor of the 1900 series and the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi that comes with the iPaq
2210 and iPaq 5000 series. In the end all PDAs are a compromise of having one
option over another, but the iPaq 4150 proves to be one of the least
compromising and most feature filled PDAs on the market. It's a thumbs up on
buying if you have $400 - $450 in your budget for buying a PDA. Pros Built in
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth provides all the wireless options you'll need Great screen,
brighter and crisper than even the iPaq 2215, but a little bit of yellow hue can
be annoying if your device suffers from that. Fantastic form factor, lightweight
and slim, the gripping on the back makes it harder to drop this PDA too. Cons
Battery life is adequate, but not great, if you have Wi-Fi turned on and screen
bright then the battery will disappear fast. If you get a device in which the
screen has a strong yellow hue it's annoying to the point that you'll want to
take it back and get a different device. Click Here email story see recent
