InnoPocket Metal Deluxe case for the Dell Axim X5 by Donald Bray D ate:
05/16/2003 Let us know your comments on this review and read what others have to
say. Product Requirements: Device: Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC The InnoPocket Metal
Deluxe Case is a molded Aluminum case lined with Neoprene. It has a very clean
design and is just barely larger than the Axim it is designed to carry. It will
even slip into the soft case provided by Dell. The neoprene lining provides
enough grip that there is little danger of the Axim falling from the case when
you have the cover open. The neoprene is ~ .020” thick. There are also two metal
spring clips on the inside back of the case, near the bottom, that match up with
the little “feet” on the battery. These help to hold the Axim in the case. The
cover is hinged on the right hand side. The hasp on the left side is a simple
friction-type mechanism. There is a small plastic catch on the body of the case
which the hasp “snaps” onto. The hasp adds very little to the outside dimensions
of the case. When twisted, the case does have a little bit of flex, and the
cover will “pop” against the edges it mates up to. If enough force is applied it
is possible to bend the sides of the case. There are cutouts in strategic
locations that allow the user to access the expansion ports, stylus, jog button,
etc. The Axim has to be removed from the case to be placed in the USB cradle,
but insertion and removal from the case are quite easy. After handling the Axim,
the case first seems to have a slick feel to it. I kept feeling as though it was
going to slip from my hand. I have yet to drop it though. I think the impression
is due to the Axim having the rubber side panels, and the InnoPocket case being
Aluminum only. There are a few dimples on both the right and left side to help
provide some grip. My overall impression of the InnoPocket case is a very
positive one. The Axim is held securely, and I'm able to access all needed
controls. The aluminum construction facilitates easily slipping it into and out
of a pocket, without the worry that keys, etc will damage the Axim. The one
gotcha here is the data port on the bottom. There is the potential for something
to get wedged into that and cause problems. I've not yet experienced any
problems though. The InnoPocket Metal Deluxe is a solid, stylish and functional
case for the Axim. Price: $34.90 Pros: Adds little bulk to the Axim Offers good
protection Functional Cons: Some users may not like the way the cover hangs off
to one side while using the Axim No room for a spare battery Let us know your

Innopocket Metal Deluxe Case (for O2-XDA II) by Mark Troy D ate: 05/28/2004 Let
us know your comments on this review and read what others have to say. Product
Requirements: Device: O2-XDA II, Qtek 2020, Orange M100 How does one reconcile a
technolust for the top gadgets (often the most fragile and expensive) with an
active lifestyle in rugged conditions? Innopocket hopes to provide the answer to
this thorny question. I tend to embody the worst of the two in the above
dilemma. I didn’t tell Gadgeteer Julie the entire story when I proffered my
skills for the review of this case. I’m the kind of guy that likes the best and
latest tech toys and am currently writing this review from my work in the field
in Equatorial Guinea, Central Africa. I am in love with my amazing Qtek 2020
(exactly the same unit as the O2-XDA II) but know that it is just a matter of
time working in this environment that I will drop it and kill it. Just a few
days ago it fell out of my ill fitting leather belt case onto a muddy country
road, just inches from a puddle. This is why I jumped at the opportunity to
review this case. The InnoPocket Metal Deluxe Case came in simple packaging but
for once of the kind you can actually open without a chainsaw. The case is made
of a brushed anodized aluminum with a neoprene lining to help protect against
bumps and scratches. It looks and feels great although I did manage to scuff it
in the first five minutes of using it. These should be the kind of marks that
add character rather than disfigure but only time will tell. My device slid down
into the case easily and is held snugly in place by the neoprene lining. You’ll
note in the first photo that the lining was slightly misaligned on the model I
received but to no effect either aesthetically or functionally once my PDA was
in place. One problem is that the neoprene lining catches on the volume slider
on the side upon insertion and removal of the device. Not only will this change
your volume and ringer settings if the device is on but I was concerned it could
actually break off the button if done with too much force. A nice feature is the
dual storage slots for SD memory cards. They fit snugly but are easily accessed.
On the other hand I don’t understand why the slots are made so that the card
must have contacts facing out. Seems more vulnerable and anything you have
written on the label side of the card can’t be seen. The case closes well and it
is obviously a sturdy reliable hinge and latch system that should hold up over
time. The anodized aluminum case makes your protected device feel tough and cool
although it does add 75g to the weight of an already heavy telephone. This is
important because this device is truly a telephone in a super PDA skin and needs
to be usable as a telephone. More on that later. As can be seen in the photos
the case has cutouts for most of the main features. The front has cutouts for
the speaker/earpiece, microphone, joy pad and the phone answer and end call
buttons. Should the phone ring it is possible to poke the tip of your finger
down into the cutout to answer a call but not without some effort. Unfortunately
the most important oversight of this case is the fact that it is for a
telephone. With the cover closed even if you can reach into the cutout to answer
a call you won’t be able to see who is calling since there is no window to show
caller information. I will most likely be taking my Dremel to it to be adding my
own small plastic window. Given that, with the cover closed, once you manage to
answer a call there is no problem hearing the caller through the cutouts or with
them hearing you. And bonus, no more smudgy face prints on your nice PDA screen.
The bottom has cutouts for reset hole, headphone jack and charger/sync port. It
is possible to use a USB sync/charge cable while in the case but the device must
be removed from the case if you use a docking cradle. The top of the case is
open giving easy access to power button, SD card slot, IR port and stylus. It
needs this access but this means that the device is not protected from water and
dust at one of its most vulnerable places. Can’t have it all I suppose. On the
left side is a cutout for voice recorder, volume control slider and camera
buttons. These buttons are closer to the surface of the case than those on the
front of the unit and are thus, more easily accessible. The back has a cutout
for the camera lens, the car antenna jack and the connection for the post clip
system. The post/clip system feels very reliable and tough with a removable
steel post that screws into the back of the case in case you don’t need it. I am
a bit concerned that this post could come loose and fall off. Overall the
construction and feel of this case is top quality and definitely leaves you with
the feeling that your PDA is better protected. The main drawback of the case is
that it is not so convenient for telephone use which is a specific but important
problem relating to this O2-XDA II PDA. This is a telephone and answering calls
with the case closed is not easy or desirable since it is not possible to see
caller information. You can open the case and answer the call with the door
hanging open by your chin which may make it look like you are pressing your face
against a waffle iron. On the other hand, use of the unit in its protected belt
clip case with a hands free Bluetooth device may be a good option for some. You
still will not see caller information but your device will still be safely
stored and you will be able to answer calls and walk about. If you intend to
primarily use this device as a PDA then the Innopocket Metal Deluxe case is an
almost perfect case both aesthetically and security wise. Despite certain
reservations I intend to continue using the Innopocket case for my PDA/Telephone
in order to protect my investment, valuable data and peace of mind. Price:
$34.90 Pros: Quality construction and cool look Great protection for your PDA
Two storage slots for SD cards Cons: Phone buttons difficult to reach through
front cutouts Impossible to see caller information with cover closed Let us know
your comments on this review and read what others have to say. Back to Main

InnoPocket HP1910 Hard Case by James M. Johnson D ate: 09/11/2003 Let us know
your comments on this review and read what others have to say. Product
Requirements: Device: HP 1900 series iPAQ Pocket PC I remember the first
“armored” case that I ever purchased – a titanium Ti Slider by Rhinoskin . At
the time I was traveling extensively and carried my old Handspring Visor Ice
Deluxe with me in a pack or in a jacket pocket. At the time, several years ago,
I read a review of the Ti Slider by Julie and was immediately sold. No matter
where I was or what I was carrying, I could rest assured that my Ti Slider was
protecting my Visor and its precious contents from every scrape, bump, and
knock. Though it was boxy looking, I still miss that old Ti case with its
gorgeous titanium patina and industrial look. Several weeks ago, as I was
packing up the family for vacation to Maine, I received an Innopocket Metal
Deluxe Case for my wife’s iPAQ 1910 to review. Thankfully the professional
looking plastic casing was not the type that requires heavy-duty shears and
protective gear to cut through. Rather, the front of the packaging opened easily
and provided access to the case. No cuts to have stitched up at the last minute
at the ER! I slipped the iPAQ into the case, then into my old Tumi T2 backpack.
I had recently taken ownership of a new Microsoft Tanager/SPVx SmartPhone and
wished to bring along another PDA as a backup. We were planning on spending over
a week hiking, biking, climbing, “lobstering” and kayaking around the wilds of
Acadia National Park. I then had an urgent business trip overseas. On both trips
I found the case to be a blessing. Having just returned, I felt compelled to
share my experience with the it. I forgot how much I loved the protection
provided by a good metal PDA case. The case is anodized aircraft aluminum. The
anodized color is silver, and there is a nice texture to the finish. This
texture not only provides a decent grip (even with moist hands from hiking) but
also helps to hide fingerprints. The aluminum construction is quite sturdy yet
lightweight. I tried Julie’s squeeze test on the case and it didn’t squeak,
though it isn’t as stiff and resilient as titanium. All the gaps are uniformly
tight with no puckers. The case closely mimics the case profile of the 1910, and
includes a “bump” on the front of the case over the directional pad and the
application keys. The back of the case is contoured around the iPAQ. The
features, from the back of the packaging: Anodized aluminum protects your hp
iPAQ Pocket PC h1910 handled from wear and tear Precision molded case to
perfectly fit your handheld Neoprene lining holds your handheld securely in
place and protects it against drops, shocks and collisions Cutouts give easy
access to stylus, memory slot, headphone jack, IR port, record button and
charging/synchronization port Size: 116x80x21mm Weight: approximately 70g Model
Number: C9-0311 Made in China The case opens to the left, which I found a bit
odd at first (I’m ambidextrous). However, I found myself becoming accustomed to
it quickly. The interior of the case is covered in neoprene, which provides
shock protection should the iPAQ and case be dropped. One nice detail is the SD/MMC
card storage slot located under the cover of the case. I’ve become accustomed to
traveling with more than one SD card, typically one for apps and one for MP3s/WMAs/MPEGs.
I never noticed the card touching the screen, unlike some of the leather cases
with built-in SD/MMC cards I’ve owned for other iPAQs. The finishing details
were exquisite. The neoprene was fitted without a ripple, and there wasn’t a
rough edge on the case (unlike some of the earlier aluminum PDA cases). Unlike
the Ti Slider, which used friction between the neoprene and the Visor to hold
the PDA in place, this Innopocket case uses two thin aluminum arms with small
plastic beads on their ends to apply pressure to the back of the iPAQ. These
arms and beads align with two dimples on the back of the 1910. With the iPAQ
inserted into the case, I was unable to “accidentally” shake the unit out its
aluminum cocoon (though I must admit I did not shake the case too violently).
The sides of the case provide well located cutouts for all the ports and buttons
on this little wonder of a PDA. On the left side there is a cutout for the IR
port and the record button. Though the record button is recessed behind the
case, the button is still accessible and less prone to accidental button
presses. However, the reset hole is blocked. On the right side is a cutout to
ease access to the stylus. The bottom provides access to the charge/synch port.
My charge and synch cable worked flawlessly, but I doubt the PDA could be placed
into the charge/synch cradle when enclosed in the case (unfortunately, I do not
have such a cradle to test this). The top of the case is open, so accessing the
SD/MMC card or headphone jack is painless. My biggest concern about using a
metal case on the slim and attractive 1910 was the typical bulkiness and lack of
attention to details that I’ve experienced in the past. However, this case has
reset all of my expectations surrounding metal PDA cases. It only marginally
increased the size and weight of this lithe little PDA, yet afforded it a level
of protection that cannot be equaled. I was amazed at the cutouts provided, and
how well they aligned with the many ports and buttons on the 1910. Even with my
stubby fingers I was able to access the buttons. Amazing. I carried the PDA/case
combination with me everywhere we went. It fit well into the interior pockets of
my trusty old Scott eVest 2.0 alongside my new Tanager. It spent hours at a time
in a pack sharing space with bottles, snacks, and some climbing gear in my
backpack. It even traveled through security and across the Atlantic Ocean and
back inside of my eVest. I used the spare SD/MMC card slot to house a card
dedicated to storing the images captured by my Tanager’s snap-on digital camera.
There isn’t a scratch or dent on the case, and the 1910 is happy and secure in
its new home. The only real wish that I have for the case is some type of
provision for a belt clip. Perhaps a threaded port on the back of the case for a
screw-on style clip would be possible? In this manner it wouldn’t damage the
slim form factor of the case during those times the clip wasn’t in use. Though I
typically carry my PDA in a pocket in a jacket or bag, there are times that a
clip on case could come in handy. In summary, I was pleasantly surprised by the
fit and finish of this case, and the high levels of protection it affords my
(wife’s) beloved 1910. Whether on board a ship, hiking in the mist and fog on
Cadillac Mountain, or strolling through Hyde Park in London, the 1910 never left
its case when in use. Now that I’m back on home turf, my wife has taken custody
of the wonderful 1910 and will not even consider removing it from the Innopocket
case. Until Louis Vuitton, Orbino, or someone else creates such a stylish and
protective case solution for PDAs, this Innopocket Metal Deluxe Case has found a
home in my wife’s purse. That alone speaks volumes about its style and
substance! Price: $29.90 available at Innopocket Pros: Lightweight, yet highly
protective case Well built (with no sharp edges) with access to most ports and
buttons Textured finish makes it less slip-prone than other anodized finishes
Simply gorgeous Cons: Lack of a belt clip Let us know your comments on this

InnoPocket HP 2215 Hard Case by Julie Strietelmeier D ate: 09/02/2003 Let us

Requirements: Device: HP 2215 Pocket PC HP2215 owners looking for a non-leather
protective case for their new Pocket PC, will be happy to learn that the folks
at InnoPocket have released another inexpensive aluminum hard case. The Metal
Deluxe case for the HP2215 is similar to their other hard case offerings, in
that it almost totally encloses the PDA for maximum protection from everyday
abuse. Made of anodized aircraft grade aluminum, this case has a bead blasted
finish that looks and feels great in your hand. Neoprene lining on the top,
bottom and sides of the case's interior give the HP2215 a little cushion in the
event of a drop. The case adds little to the overall size and weight of the PDA.
Size: 114 x 80 x 25mm Weight: 63g The HP2215 slides into the case from the top
and is held there securely by the neoprene and two metal clips that line up with
the holes on the back of the PDA. The fit isn't extremely tight. I was able to
shake the PDA out of the case with some force. While inserted, the front of the
HP2215 is fully exposed for easy access to all buttons and features including
memory card slots, earphone jack, speaker, LEDs, serial port and reset switch.
The case cover opens book style, but from left to right. This may feel backwards
to some people. Personally, it works great for me as I am a lefty. The cover has
one SD storage slot in the middle. As noted in other recent Innopocket Metal
case reviews, the SD card is inserted into the slot with its pins facing out.
This feels 'wrong' to me. Regardless, it is nice to have the storage for an
extra card. The cover closes very securely, with a definite snap. A small
plastic bar is employed as the catch. The cover is actually a little difficult
to open as the case is smooth and somewhat hard to hold on to. Raised grips
extrude on both sides of the case to help facilitate opening it. Like most PDAs,
you can not sync them in their cradle while in a case. The Metal Deluxe case is
no different. Fortunately, there is a cutout for the sync port, allowing you to
use a cable for syncing and charging. Innopocket is now offering an engraving
service for an extra fee. For $9.00, you can engrave up to 15 characters on the
back of the case. As you can see, they were kind enough to engrave my name on
mine. Cases which take advantage of the engraving Services are non-returnable
and require 2 extra days before shipping. The Innopocket Metal Deluxe case for
the HP2215 is my new favorite case at the moment. It's made well, doesn't cost a
fortune, and protects my PDA from my typical knocking around. Price: $32.90
Pros: Good value for price Stylish Cons: Slightly difficult to open Have to
remove to sync / charge with cradle Let us know your comments on this review and

InnoPocket Toshiba e755 Hard Case by James Kendrick D ate: 08/07/2003 Let us
know your comments on this review and read what others have to say. Product
Requirements: Device: Toshiba e740, e750, e755 Pocket PCs PDA cases are such
personal items that true techno-geeks will search endlessly for the perfect one
that matches their lifestyle and personality. We never seem to find the absolute
perfect case and keep searching and searching. To truly understand what a
reviewer feels about a case you must know at least a little about how they use
their PDA. I carry my Pocket PC everywhere. I mean, everywhere. It is always
with me as I am what you might call a heavy user. There, I've said it. I am
addicted to my Pocket PC. The only place you will see me without it is in a
swimming pool. It will be with me AT the swimming pool but I draw the line at
taking it IN the pool with me. I may be addicted to it but I'm not crazy. I work
out of a mobile office and go from client office to client office all day long.
The Pocket PC is an integral part of my workday and I use it for everything. PIM
functions, time and expense billing, email, web surfing. Everything. This means
the PDA must be easily accessible and well protected at the same time. To
accomplish this for the past few years I have been using a holster case with a
belt clip which literally keeps the PDA ready to whip out and, well COMPUTE at a
moment's notice. But since I am a complete techno-geek and I search endlessly
for the "perfect" case for my Toshiba e755 I jumped at the chance to get my
hands on the InnoPocket hard case for this review. Anodized aircraft grade
aluminum. Just think about that phrase for a minute. There could never be a
geekier term used for any PDA case. Extra points for that. The shipping
container the InnoPocket arrives in is clear plastic packaging which lets you
see the sleek beauty of this case even before opening it. Extra points for that,
too. The case is a very well machined work of art. I mean, it's frankly
beautiful with such clean lines and every thing fits together without a single
flaw. The case is well tooled and all the slots and cutouts fit the e755 just
perfectly. The aluminum case fits the Toshiba like a metal glove and everything
lines up just right and the lid opens just right. When closed the InnoPocket lid
fits perfectly with every seam just right. The brushed metal the case is made
from is simply gorgeous. What's not to like about this case? Read on and I'll
tell you. The case is lined on the inside with neoprene which not only provides
cushioning to help survive mild shocks but also makes the PDA fit very snugly
inside. The Toshiba slides in with just the right amount of difficulty to give
you a feeling of confidence that the case will probably never wear down to the
point the PDA will slip out unintentionally. Therein lies the first rub. The PDA
is almost impossible to take out. The first few times I removed the Toshiba from
the InnoPocket I almost ripped the plastic top off the PDA. That's not good at
all. I quickly devised a system of pushing the bottom of the Toshiba up with a
stick or something and then carefully wedging it out of the case. While the
InnoPocket has cutouts for a sync cable, the IR port, scroller wheel, WiFi
switch, and the entire top of the Toshiba, I still use the cradle for charging
at night. So the difficulty of removing the PDA from the case is one I face
daily. I've pointed out that I normally use a belt clip. Not everyone likes belt
clips nor would find one important but it's very important to me. The InnoPocket
doesn't come with a belt clip and they don't offer one as an option, either.
This is a deal killer for me as I'm not about to risk a $500 Pocket PC on a user
glued belt clip. The Toshiba is heavy enough on its own but once you put it in
the heavy metal case it weighs so much you'll never want to carry it in a shirt
pocket. There'd be a permanent list to port if you did. So, the lack of a belt
clip was the first big strike against the InnoPocket for me. Not having a belt
clip means you will carry the PDA around in your briefcase or bag. The
InnoPocket is so sturdy you can do just that without any fear whatsoever your
investment will get damaged. It's probably the strongest case I've ever seen for
any PDA. So if a belt clip is not important to you the InnoPocket might be the
most beautiful and sturdiest case you could ever want, right? There's one trait
that anodized aircraft grade aluminum possesses that I never realized until I
had my hands on the InnoPocket. It's slippery. Very, very slippery. InnoPocket
didn't put any rubber grippy things anywhere on the metal case. I guess they
felt it would mar the simple beauty of the case. This case is so slippery it's
downright dangerous. If you did keep it in your shirt pocket I can almost
guarantee it would slip out. I have never dropped a PDA in years of heavy use
but I almost dropped the InnoPocket twice in the first week. This is ironic
because the InnoPocket is designed to protect the PDA from shocks but would
likely cause the user to drop it at some point. Maybe I'm just being paranoid
but I found this case to be dangerous. Price: $29.90 available at Innopocket
Pros: Gorgeous- real attention-getter Strong- no better protection for any PDA
Perfectly form fitting Cutouts allow easy access to almost all PDA functions
Cons: Slippery- you WILL eventually drop this case Difficult to remove Pocket PC
from the case No belt clip Let us know your comments on this review and read

Fellowes PDA Hard Cases by Julie Strietelmeier D ate: 03/18/2003 Let us know
your comments on this review and read what others have to say. Product
Requirements: Device: iPAQ 36,37,38,and 3900 series Pocket PCs Sony CLIE T615C
Palm V and m500 series Here we have yet another aluminum hard case for the iPAQ.
The Fellowes PDA Hard Case is similar in look and feel to the Kensington PDA
Protector hard case that I've reviewed in the past. It has the same slightly
rubberized coating on the exterior with a velvet material on the interior.
Available for the various iPAQ models as well as the Sony CLIE T615C and Palm V,
m500 series, I reviewed the iPAQ version of the case with my 3800 series. From
the start, I wasn't very impressed with this case. My 3800 was held in the case
with a very loose fit. Turning the case upside down would have allowed the PDA
to fall out with very little effort. I next noticed that the magnetic cover had
a very weak hold. Lifting the case off the table by grasping the cover would
always result in the bottom of the case dropping open. Inside the cover is a
thin nylon holster that can hold 4 SD cards and several business cards. This
holster is pretty cheesy and is easily stretched. I don't think it would take
much to tear it. There is also a hole in the cover. Why, I have absolutely no
idea. Using the PDA while in the case is fine. All features are easily
accessible and not obstructed. Of course you will not be able to sync/charge
with the cradle while the PDA is in this case. Doing so with a cable will work
fine though. About the only thing I would use this case for would be during
travel. The aluminum would protect the PDA from crushing if you needed to pack
the PDA in another bag. Price: $35.99 ($19.99 from StylusCentral ) Pros: Access
to earphone jack while case is closed Good crushproof protection Cons: Loose fit
Magnetic cover not very secure Cheap SD, business card slot holster Can't sync
with cradle while in case Let us know your comments on this review and read what

Metal Deluxe iPAQ Case by Julie Strietelmeier Last date revised: 08/19/2002
Product Requirements: Device: Compaq iPAQ 3600, 3700, 3800, 3900 series Pocket
PCs I love leather cases... which is a good thing since I have to review so
many! But there's something sexy about a metal PDA case that always catches my
interest just a little more than leather. I don't know if it is the smooth cool
feeling of the metal in my hand, or the extra weight that appeals to me more. I
know as a kid, I used to have a thing for ladies compacts. You know those small
metal containers for blush or makeup? I used to go thru my mother's dress
drawers looking for old ones that I could sneak off with. I would clean out the
makeup and use them to hold silly little items. I always liked the feel and
weight of the case in my hand. Yes, I was a strange child! While obviously
nothing has changed in that respect, I have just graduated to metal cases that
hold more expensive silly little items! :o) The Metal Deluxe iPAQ case from
Innopocket (and also available from Proporta.com ) is a very yummy case. Made
from anodized scratch proof aluminum, it has been molded to fit the original and
current iPAQs (without an expansion sleeve) perfectly. It's basically a metal
version of the case that is included with the 3800 and 3900 series iPAQs. This
case comes in a silver finish that has a slightly frosted texture that both
doesn't show fingerprints, or scratches. The aluminum is of sufficient thickness
to resist flexing and bending. The case feels solid enough in my opinion to
carry in a back jeans pocket. I think you could even sit down without harming
the PDA. The iPAQ slides into this case the same way it would slide into an
expansion sleeve. A small spring loaded catch at the bottom of the case fits
into the expansion slot at the bottom of the iPAQ holding it securely in place.
Metal arms also hold the sides of the PDA. The interior of the case is lined
with a thin layer of neoprene. This helps protect the iPAQ from scratches and
shock if you would happen to drop it. I'm not sure how well this case will
protect your PDA if you drop it from more than a few feet, but it will protect
it from everyday use and abuse. While in the case, you have access to all
features of the PDA. Nothing is obstructed. The only thing that you can't do is
sync/charge in the cradle. This is a little disappointing considering the fact
that this case is almost identical to the plastic case that came with my 3800.
And with that case, it can sync easily in the cradle. Hopefully they can tweak
this case so that future versions will sync. As is, you'll either have to remove
the iPAQ from the case, or use a cable or IR to sync with your PC. The cover on
the Metal Deluxe case snaps firmly in place with a satisfying click . Unlike
other metal cases that I have reviewed in the past, this case opens as easily as
it closes. A nicely curved latch gives your thumb a good surface to grip when
opening. Some people might not like the fact that when the cover opens, it can
only open approximately 115 degrees, unlike the plastic case whose cover can
fold completely underneath the PDA. As a lefty, I didn't find this to be
awkward, but right handed people might. As far as materials and construction, I
found nothing to complain about. The edges are all smooth and burr free. Mating
edges line up perfectly. This is a great looking and feeling case that protects
your iPAQ while adding very little bulk. Although it is not constructed of
titanium like the popular Rhinoskin line of metal cases, if I were shopping for
a metal case for my iPAQ, this is the one I would chose. Price: $29.90 Pros:
Stylish Adds almost no bulk Cons: Can't sync / charge in cradle Can't use with
expansion sleeves Let me know your comments on the Metal Deluxe iPAQ Case and

PDA Pocket Armor Aluminum Hard Case for the Compaq iPAQ by Judie Clark Last date
revised: 06/04/2002 Product Requirements: Device: Compaq iPAQ 3800 Series There
are some people that aren't happy until their PDA is placed inside a soft
leather case. Then there are those that are more interested in an industrial
look and the screen protection that a metal case can provide. But a couple of
inherent problems with most metal cases will soon become evident when you
actually use them. The least of which being that they are heavy, bulky, and will
generally have edges that you could poke an eye out with. Then, if you are an
iPAQ owner, there is a whole extra set of problems that will arise if you even
think about using one of this particular PDA's many sleeves while the iPAQ is in
a protective hard case. So, it would seem that an iPAQ owner that wanted a metal
case would be forced to either buy one to fit his or her PDA in each of its
configurations, or the owner would just have to learn to do without. That was,
until PDA Pocket Armor came out with an innovative new aluminum and ABS plastic
hard case made to fit the iPAQ in every one of its incarnations. The PDA Pocket
Armor Aluminum Hard Case for the Compaq iPAQ is one of the most original ideas I
have seen in some time as it has actually been engineered to accommodate the
iPAQ and all of its various sleeves. In fact, without inserting your iPAQ into a
sleeve of some sort, you won't be able to use this case at all. This case is not
boxy at all, in fact, it is one of the few cases that allows the iPAQ's curves
to shine in all of their glory. There are also no sharp edges to worry about
poking or cutting yourself on... Top view of empty PDA Armor case Underside view
of PDA Armor case As you can see, there is no rear end to the PDA Pocket Armor
case. This allows you to slide whatever sleeve you'd like, including several of
GM's Silver Slider line, into this case's side rails. Try doing this with any
other iPAQ hard case! PDA Armor on iPAQ with PCMCIA Sleeve PDA Armor on iPAQ
with Dual PCMCIA sleeve The cover and top of the PDA Pocket Armor are made of
anodized aluminum, while the side rails are made of ABS plastic. When closed,
the cover will flex a tiny bit. I am talking not even a millimeter. When flexed,
the cover comes nowhere near the screen, and it appears to offer excellent
protection from just about any bump you might be able to send it's way. Of
course, common sense dictates that you should not drive a car over this case -
it isn't crush-proof. Perfect cutouts for the iPAQ 3835 allow easy button and
joy-pad access. One thing that takes a bit of getting used to is how the case
opens from the left, or the opposite of a conventional book. Presumably this is
because of the voice recorder button being on the left side which might prohibit
the hinge from working properly on that side, but I still wish there had been a
way to put the hinge there. As it is, lefties will most likely most appreciate
the placement. A flexing plastic button-latch keeps everything secure when the
cover is closed. Getting the iPAQ and its sleeve out of the PDA Pocket Armor
case is a little tricky until you learn the secret: there is a small black latch
you will need to lift as you slide everything out. When you do this, it is
simple and quick. One area in which I feel this case really shines is that of
its weight and size. Because it only weighs 2.75 ounces, it doesn't create a
complete pocket monster when you have it installed...well, no more of a monster
than an iPAQ already is when a sleeve is attached. When closed, the Pocket
Pocket Armor measures 5.34" high x 3.98" wide x 0.79" thick. Installed, the
thickness would of course depend on the thickness of whatever sleeve you
happened to be using. Another neat thing about this case is that it is designed
to allow resets and trouble-free charging/syncing with a cable while in the
case. The PDA Pocket Armor is a great alternative for those that need a bit more
protection than a leather case can provide, and for those that want or need to
be able to use the same case with a variety of sleeves. I am completely
impressed with the flexibility that it offers, although I do wish it were
possible to change the opening to the right side. But that is just me being
petty. ;0) The PDA Pocket Armor case for the Compaq iPAQ is available from DS
International . Price: $34 Available in black, silver and titanium Pros: Solid
construction Great screen protection Can accommodate all sleeves Cons: You must
use a sleeve to attach case to your iPAQ Case opens from left side: fine for
lefties, a pain for righties Let me know your comments on the PDA Pocket Armor

Rhinoskin iPAQ Aluminum Hardcase by Julie Strietelmeier Last date revised:
05/13/2002 Product Requirements: Device: Compaq iPAQ 3600, 3700, 3800 So, you
want an iPAQ PDA case that offers more protection than most... You want
something that you can stick in your gear bag or back pocket (you're going to
need big back pockets though for this case) and sit on it without fear of
crushing... You want something that also looks cool and is easy to use... What
you want is the Rhinoskin iPAQ Hardcase. This is a molded anodized aluminum
scratch-resistant case which fits the 3800, 3700, and 3600 Series Compaq iPAQs
perfectly. Instead of using Velcro or a similar adhesive to affix your PDA to
the case, an interior plastic mounting bracket is employed. This bracket grasps
the sides of the iPAQ and holds it securely in the right side of the case. The
bracket is built into the hinge which allows you to easily flip the iPAQ back
and forth to aid in removing SD cards and the stylus. I tested this case with
both a 3600 and a 3800 series iPAQ and found that both fit equally well in the
bracket. While the PDA is in this case, you have access to all its features: joy
pad, application buttons, power button, IR port etc. You can also sync with
cradle while in the iPAQ is in this case. You will have to maneuver the front
and back shells of the case in order to do this, but the point is that you can
do it. The only minor annoyances concerning accessibility with this case are
that the record button is not easily pressed, and that the earphone jack can not
be accessed while the case is closed. It really depends on the individual
whether or not these two 'problems' are important to them. This is a book style
case and as such, can only open a total of 180 degrees. This may make holding
and using the case a little uncomfortable for some people. I prefer cases where
the lid lifts up like a steno pad cover instead of opening right to left like a
book. The interior of the case is lined in Neoprene which is supposed to help
cushion the iPAQ in the event of a drop. I'm really not sure how effective the
thin layer of Neoprene would be in such a situation though... The case is held
closed with a press fit latch. Unlike some of Rhinoskin's Titanium cases, I
didn't have any problems opening this case. I should point out that it is
possible that over time the nubs on the latch may wear down with this type of
closure method. The Rhino iPAQ Aluminum Hardcase isn't exactly sleek... It does
add some bulk to your PDA: Size: 5.3" x 3.3" x 0.6" Weight: approx. 3.2 oz The
hardcase looks great and when closed, feels smooth in your hand. Unfortunately,
I did find some rough/sharp edges when I opened the case. All in all, I think
this is a nice case to use when you need more protection than what a typical
soft leather case can offer. Price: $34.95 Pros: Rigid crush resistant
protection Doesn't require Velcro Cons: Rough edges Can't use earphone jack
while case is closed Let me know your comments on the Rhinoskin iPAQ Aluminum
Hardcase and read what others have to say. Back to Main Page.
